DIYing it y'all

I wanted a built in bookshelf for all of my cookbooks.
Just a subtle hint.
Not really noticeable
at all!

My husband is a busy man. I kept reminding him. I thought I would be help the project along. I made a few rather large holes where I wanted him to put my built in bookshelf. I wanted to show him right where I wanted the shelf. They were rather unsightly. I just wanted to make sure that there was nothing behind the drywall. There was a pipe near the edge, but nothing that caused us to rethink our plan. I was not able to do much else because of the littlest one. He would love to help, but he is just so tiny.

There was some swearing
involved with this part.
Ahhh! Chaos!

We sealed off the area that was to be demoed. Husband got to work. He first took his time in taking out the drywall. We will keep it for patching jobs later. Then he took out all the insulation. Next was removal of all the studs. Then it was time for clean up of phase one.

Now during this time we have a portion of our house blocked off from dogs and children. It looked way more dangerous that it actually was. Husband had to go to his actual job so he took some time off from the bookshelf. It was quite the struggle to keep all of the small creatures away from the "danger zone".

Much better.
Work it Husband!

So after installing the bead board and reinforcing the studs it was time to install the framework. There was four inches in the wall and we added four more inches that now stick out of the wall. This ends up making 8 inch deep shelves. Perfect for cookbooks and knick- knacks.

What next you ask?? Staining and painting of course! We stained the shelves "special walnut" and painted the bead board what we thought was the same color as the walls. I mixed up a few colors of paint as I needed it to paint the living room a few years ago. Soooo none of the walls in the living room are actually the same color. They are really really close though. Well we had to use the color for the very last wall that I painted in the living room which is a completely different color than the first wall that I painted. We will need to repaint the entire area. We painted the frame white to match the trim. At least that matched! There are a few more things that need to be done like molding and touch ups, but I got excited and wanted to show everyone. I love it!
Rocko loves it too!
Our next project is our staircase. We are right smack in the middle of it. I am hoping it will be done by the end of the month. So exciting!!! Thanks again for reading. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
