Time for some scrubbing!

First, I would like to thank everyone who read my last post. I have felt the love and support from you. I am so thankful to have such wonderful friends, family, and neighbors.

Now, on to the fun stuff!

My kitchen is a mess. I am sure you are thinking to yourself, “Oh, so is mine!” My kitchen is messier than yours, I promise.

We are cleaning out the kitchen. I don’t do anything half assed so we pulled everything out of everywhere.

Behind the fridge: letter magnets and recipe cards.
Under the dishwasher: bubble wands and dead bugs.
Behind the oven: grease covered lego heads.

We use baking soda and vinegar to clean everything. It is so much fun to do sprinkle baking soda and then spray it with vinegar and watch it foam up. I feel like I am really cleaning and doing it in a safe way. Our dog is a counter surfer, the baby is all over the place, and Andrew still eats off the floor sometimes. Gross. At least when it is clean I don't have to worry about harmful chemicals getting all over the most precious ones. I do not have a formula or ratios for the baking soda and vinegar. I just sprinkle, spray, and let sit until I come back to it. For our counters I use one cup of vinegar to 3 cups of water with one teaspoon of dawn mixed in. For the floor we use the same ratios just larger amounts. I also use a swiffer to mop, but I attach a microfiber cloth that I bought from the dollar store. It is washable and wonderful on the wallet.

The entire time the hubs and I were cleaning out the kitchen, I found myself becoming more and more excited. I finally feel like I am over the huge emotional and hormonal hump that comes with the first year of a baby. Purging after all of the nesting feels good. I love to see something stripped down to nothing and then refill it with only the necessities. That was the past year for me; new baby = primal mode. Now I am refilling with family, friends, and life again.

To all my friends out there with little babies, about to have babies, or thinking about having babies; you get the first year off. Forget about hand-written notes to neighbors. Drop the waking up fresh faced and bright eyed. Focus on being Momma Bear. Hold that baby all day in your most comfy chair if you want to. Tell everyone they have to bring you food or diapers if they want to see the baby. Enjoy the first year because they are only a baby once.

When you feel yourself coming back, Celebrate! Welcome back to the world! It wasn't cleaned while you were gone so grab a bucket!

  1. After all of our company leaves, I am going to do the same thing at our house. I also use baking soda and vinegar to clean as well as the microfiber cloths on an old swiffer mop. I feel so much better using the natural cleaners while Declan is into everything. I also don't have coughing spells while I am cleaning since there aren't chemical fumes in the air. Big plus!
